This kind of raft moored alongside a local lake a couple of days ago:
The flower is Lythrum salicaria or purple-loosestrife:
It grows natively across temperate Europe, Asia, northwest Africa, and parts of Australia. It has also spread and become a naturalized, invasive plant in North America and New Zealand, thriving in wet soils and open areas.
