Hello friends 馃榾 . Today I will show you an extremely interesting place in Bulgaria, namely the Shumen fortress. The Shumen Fortress Reserve is a very popular tourist destination in Bulgaria. It is located near the modern city of Shumen (only a few kilometers from the cyti), and is located high above the city on the so-called Shumen Plateau.
At the end of May, my close friend and I were on a sea holiday in the resort of Albena (Bulgaria). On the last day of our vacation, when it was time to go home, we spontaneously decided to make a short impromptu trip to Shumen Fortress. The town of Shumen was a convenient destination for us as it is on the way home, and it was necessary to deviate only about 14 km from the highway to make the planned trip to the fortress.
The place is also known as the old town of Shumen. In winter the reserve is open to visitors from 9 am to 5 pm, and in summer from 9 am to 7 pm.To the entrance of the fortress, you can go by car on an asphalt road, following the signs.
We arrive around 12 noon.
There is a booth at the entrance, where a ticket fee of 4 BGN for adults is paid.In general, there is a professional guide who accompanies visitors during the tour, but unfortunately today we are unlucky. The guide is absent and we will have to tour the fortress alone. And so with great enthusiasm we go to the fortress. Before we reach the entrance we see a monument built to the left of the road. The monument is to Vera Antonova.
Vera Antonova is a famous Bulgarian archaeologist who has dedicated much of her life to researching the archaeological heritage of Shumen and its surroundings.
We continue to the inside of the fortress.
Although at first glance it looks quite impressive, the fortress is not really very big. It takes you about 1 hour to see around everything.
Walking along the built alleys, we follow the signs that are placed in different places to guide us and explain where what is located.
We also pass along a narrow Roman street.
On the territory of the fortress there is a functioning museum, where you can see a rich collection of various items found during archeological excavations.
Following the sign we head to the museum.
In front of the museum there is a wonderful place to relax.
We stop for a short time to take a break and have a refreshing coffe.
The place is very beautiful and from here there is a stunning panoramic view of the town of Shumen.
At the disposal of visitors there are also powerful binocular that work with coins. Use the binocular , and you can enjoy in more detail the unique landscape around.
On the opposite hill you can see another emblematic tourist site, namely the monument 1300 years of Bulgaria.
After this short break it is time to go in the museum.
Inside we are greeted by a very kind employee. He explains that photography is generally forbidden here, but he made an exception for us and allowed us to take some photos. I was able to capture many of the priceless objects and archeological finds around 馃榾
After visiting the museum, we head to one of the most attractive places for tourists, namely a fully restored fortress tower.
We enter the tower and find interesting photos on the walls, which show what everything looked like before the restoration begin.
Our tour is coming to an end, and we are heading for the exit
This is the end of our interesting tour. Happy and extremely impressed by what we saw, we headed to the parking lot where our car is.
It's time to go home馃榾
That was all from me for today. Soon I will show you many more interesting places from my homeland. I wish all enthusiast travelers a light and peaceful evening!
