Nature and art seem to flee each other
And have found each other before you think it;
The aversion has also disappeared from me,
And both seem equally attracted to me.
It is probably only a good effort!
And if only in measured hours
Tied to art with spirit and diligence,
May free nature glow in the heart again.
This is how it is with all education:
In vain will unbound spirits
Striving for the accomplishment of pure heights.
If you want great things, you have to pull yourself together;
Only in limitation does the master show himself,
And only the law can give us freedom.
