Right from our mother's womb, we were innocent as infants like a completely new memory card that doesn't contain anything good or bad in it.
But we were given birth to , nursed and taught most of the thing we know today by our parents.
That's a process called teaching and learning.
A teacher is someone who knows and can impact his/her knowledge to his students in order for them to know what he/she knows or even much morethan them.
A teacher takes there time to study and transfer what they know to there student, a teacher observes the behaviour of it's students and guide them towards the part that is most favourable to that particular student.
A teacher can be your mother, your father or someone you don't know entirely.
A guru is someone that is deepened and has mastered a particular area of life, be it spirituality or otherwise. A guru knows everything there is to know about a certain thing but he/she is not necessarily a teacher. Infact i doubt if there is a guru who is a teacher.
Sometimes you can also refer a guru to a genius, let's take a tech guru like ELON MUSK for an example. He knows very much about technology, electric cars and so on. But does he walk into the classroom to lecture students on how to manufacture electric cars from the scratch? The answer is No.
I believe majority of us knows what this means, this is a feeling of recognizing the presence and acknowledging that there is a something much more greater than yourself, finding out that there is something more to being human.
Now that we have explained the two major concepts there in a lay man's term, let's answer the main question itself.
What you need is a teacher and not a guru, teachers are always there to answer your questions, we have always been surrounded by teachers right from birth till now, from our parents to our classroom teachers whom taught us how to read and write.
A monk, A preacher is always referred to as a teacher and never a guru, why are they called teachers instead of gurus since they know practically anything to be able to teach us? That's because they were taught and they want to pass there knowledge of what they know to us but the opposite can be said for a guru, a guru does it for him or herself.
A monk guides you towards the part of Buddha, a part that helps you grow your spiritual life, a part that helps you understand things better and make tangible meaning out of things.
A preacher on the same hand helps you, encourages you and guide you through the parts of attaining spiritual heights, they preach to you to refrain from sins, love and care for one another. Meditate on the words of God and follow his commandments, all those things teaches one on his or her spiritual development.
A guru cants lecture you on how to become a guru but a teacher once taught a guru what helped him or her become the guru they are. Directly or indirectly we all need teachers in all aspect of our lives not just on the spiritual aspect of life.
This doesn't dispute the fact that we need gurus too No. We need them but when it comes to spiritual growth we need more of teachers to achieve that.
