(Dance) Music History from Austria
I did a teaser video on Friday and missed to post yesterday as the girl had other plans with me. But Dance Weekend Special Austria deserves more than just a teaser. While I hope that fabulous
Mozart - Classical Music in Vienna
Within the lovely small country in the Alps the capital Vienna plays a very important role for the development of music. Famous composers such as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Joseph Haydn, Franz Schubert and Johann Strauss II are associated with the city - Mozart being the most known probably.
Vienna was the European capital of classical music in the 18th / 19th century and a key center for musical innovation. This status already started in the early 16th century with focus ob lute as instrument but Mozart and his works are probably the most famous ones.
Popular Music
In popular music it was for sure Falco in the 1980s who build the bridge to Mozart by his song "Rock Me Amadeus" that reached the Billboard Hot 100 in 1986 and was no. 1 of the charts.
Some of the international known Austrian acts I know include rock acts such as Christina Stürmer (she toured with Bryan Adams), DJ Ötzi and the Liedermacher Type of singers such as Wolfgang Ambros, Georg Dancer to name two only.
NDW past and Eurovision
When I was young there were some acts also involved in the movement Neue Deutsche Welle like DÖF with Codo or Erste Allgemeine Verunsicherung with lot charts breakers. Having written this I just realized I hardly know a lot about the music scene there and probably need more advise from the Austrians here on Steemit especially when it comes to the existing electronic music scene in Austria.
One of the most recent music victories of Austria has been the success at the Eurovision Song Contest (as a Germany I have to say, i boycott this contest) with the controversial Conchita Wurst - a kind of drag queen that which sparked some controversy.
I will talk about Yodelling in a separate post within this year maybe as it required more background and research. Sure
