Earlier this morning, I decided to do some cleaning at home, there was no school today so it was a less hectic day for me.

While cleaning, especially my room, I realized that I needed to declutter a lot of things. I was completely amazed at the whole waste from my room, actually I am someone ho does not like discarding things just like that.

I don't know if it's a good habit or not, but I just can't figure out why I do this. Whenever I have something new and it eventually becomes old or stops functioning, I usually keep it somewhere safe instead of throwing it away. It could be clothes, a beautiful package, jewelry, bangles, or almost anything. I just find it really difficult to let go of things and trash them.

It’s even harder when something was given to me as a gift. Even if it gets damaged or is no longer useful, I still value it so much because of the memories attached to it that I can't bring myself to discard it.
I don't know if I'm the only person that does this because I find it a bit weird.

So today while cleaning up I found lot of things, my old earpods, an old wristwatch that isn't functioning anymore, earrings, glasses and even an old phone.

This phone was given to me by my father the day I finished writing my WEST AFICAN SECONDARY SCHOOL EXAMS. I had used this phone since 2020 till last year when it malfunctioned and I had to buy a new phone. Still, I kept it, even though it was completely bad, I couldn't trash it.

While decluttering my room, I had to look at all the things that had occupied my space even though there were no longer usable. That made me to ponder a lot about life, I realized that sometimes we do the same thing with life.

We hold on to things, relationships, people, habits, and even memories that are no longer good for us. Sometimes, they no longer serve a purpose in our lives, yet we continue to keep them around.

They occupy space in our lives even when deep down, we know we don't really want them there anymore.

And the strange thing is that sometimes, it's not because we don't know we should let go. We know, we just don't have the courage to.
Maybe it's because we're afraid of losing the memories attached to them. Maybe we're afraid of starting over, or we are simply too used to having them around.

The funny part of this is that, they will keep cluttering our inner space that they would hardly be enough space to receive new things. We have kept so many things from the past that the is no enough space for things in the present. Most times we do this unconsciously and sometimes intentionally.

I think it's time we know when to let some things go, we should come to understand that most times those things are not meant to be forever, they had their purpose and it's time we find the courage to let them go and make room for other new things.
