I often take the Stadler commuter train for trips lasting one to three hours. Many older people simply sleep the whole way, while young people are glued to their gadgets.
As for overnight trains—when I traveled to Moscow or St. Petersburg and walked from the dining car back to my own, passing through several other cars—everyone was asleep, and occasionally there was some loud snoring :)
