Hello, dear community, I hope you are all doing well. On this wonderful occasion, I want to share a little bit of my university life with you, showing you a small part of my university, the Pedagogical Institute of Maracay, or UPEL. I hope you enjoy it.
Hola, querida comunidad espero que se encuentren muy bien, en esta hermosa ocasión quiero compartir con ustedes un poco de mi vida universitaria, mostrándoles una pequeña parte de mi universidad, el Pedagógico de Maracay o UPEL. Espero que les agrade.
The teachers' college where I am is quite large, encompassing more than four specializations and other centers that were once part of the university. Furthermore, the grounds were formerly the site of what are now the San Jacinto fairs, and it's said that there was a zoo, although this hasn't been fully confirmed. In any case, the grounds are home to a great diversity of flora and fauna; there are even ponds near the biology department and other species that thrive within the university.Aside from that, the Pedagogical Institute is one of the few universities still operating here in Venezuela, and it's the only one that trains teachers. Walking in there every day reminds me of the purpose of being a teacher and the moral and civic duty we have to society. Just as the Pedagogical Institute refuses to die in terms of its infrastructure and tries to remain standing and stable as much as possible with the limited resources we have, the teaching profession in Venezuela is doing the same.
El pedagógico donde me encuentro se caracteriza por ser bastante grande, abarcando más de cuatro especialidades y otros centros que formaban parte de la universidad. Además, el terreno anteriormente era la sede de lo que actualmente son las ferias de San Jacinto, y se dice que había un zoológico, aunque esto no está completamente confirmado. El caso es que los terrenos albergan una gran diversidad de flora y fauna; incluso hay estanques cerca del departamento de biología y otras especies que prosperan dentro de la universidad.Aparte de eso, el Pedagógico es una de las universidades que sigue en pie aquí en Venezuela y es la única que forma maestros. Entrar todos los días me recuerda el propósito de ser docente y la tarea moral y cívica que tenemos con la sociedad. Así como el Pedagógico se niega a morir en infraestructura y trata de mantenerse de pie y estable en la medida de lo posible con los recursos limitados que tenemos, lo mismo está haciendo la profesión docente en Venezuela.
Since my department doesn't have its own building at the moment, we sometimes have classes at the main biology department building. Nearby, there are some trees and a rather beautiful landscape overlooking the hills and mountains that are part of Maracay. Because I'm studying on the first floor of this building, I can appreciate a better view both inside the university and of its surroundings. While we were in class, I noticed that the day was very beautiful and decided to take these lovely photographs.There are many more gardens on the university grounds; we also have mango trees and other fruit trees. I'd say the Pedagogical Institute is about 70% trees and plants, and the rest is buildings, but it's beautiful because there's always shade, places to rest, and the remaining infrastructure blends in with nature. You could say they're reminders of what the Pedagogical Institute was like in its golden age, something we shouldn't forget and something we need to work on to improve and build upon.
Como mi departamento no tiene sede momentáneamente, a veces tenemos clases en la sede del departamento principal de biología. Cerca de allí hay unos árboles y un paisaje bastante bonito que da al frente de cerros y montañas que forman parte de lo que es Maracay. Como estoy estudiando en el primer piso de este departamento, puedo apreciar una mejor vista tanto dentro de la universidad como de sus alrededores, mientras estábamos en clase, noté que el día estaba muy bonito y decidí tomar estas hermosas fotografías.Hay muchísimos más jardines en la universidad; también tenemos árboles de mango y de otras frutas. Puedo decir que el pedagógico es un 70% de árboles y plantas, y el resto son edificios, pero es bonito porque siempre hay sombra, hay lugares para descansar, y la infraestructura que quedó se integra con la naturaleza. Digamos que son recuerdos de lo que fue el pedagógico en sus tiempos dorados, de lo que no debemos olvidar y en lo que tenemos que trabajar para mejorar y construir.
This is one of the things I love about studying at this part of the teachers' college: you can always see beautiful landscapes and enjoy the company of birds, like the one called Christ the Redoreut. I think one of the characteristics of the universities here in Maracay is that most are open and have very nice gardens, although they aren't well maintained due to infrastructure issues. However, they remain functional, which is what's important, and they form part of the university's identity within the teachers' college community.
Esta es una de las cosas que me encanta de estudiar en esta parte del pedagógico: siempre puedes observar paisajes muy hermosos y disfrutar de la compañía de pajaritos, como el llamado Cristo. Creo que una de las características de las universidades aquí en Maracay es que la mayoría son abiertas y albergan jardines muy bonitos, aunque no están bien conservados debido a cuestiones de infraestructura. Sin embargo, se mantienen funcionando, que es lo importante, y forman parte de la identidad universitaria dentro de la comunidad del pedagógico.
