Why do good people suffer while the wicked prosper? | The Old Path

Bible references: Ecclesiastes 9:2, John 28:29, Job 20:4, Luke 6:20

I learned a very vital lesson from this teaching. In this life, there are certain events that are bound to happen to everyone. As long as you're an inhabitant of this earth, you are not excluded from them. We are told this in the book of
Ecclesiastes 9:2. It reads:

All things come alike to all: there is one event to the righteous, and to the wicked; to the good and to the clean, and to the unclean; to him that sacrificeth, and to him that sacrificeth not: as is the good, so is the sinner; and he that sweareth, as he that feareth an oath.

This is a truth that was observed and rendered by King Solomon during his reign as King. Some events in life are not positioned for just a particular set of people. Many people often feel that some things that happen to some people weren't supposed to happen to them.

We can't say for sure what is supposed to happen to some people and what is not supposed to. Our perception of justice and God's perception are not the same thing. Some people may also view some of these things as "unfair" and often make us question God concerning these things.

One thing God is not and never would be is unjust. One thing we must know is that God's justice doesn't end in this our time only. It continues even after the end of time. That's the time God will pass on His final judgment. Let's examine John 5:28–29.

John.5.28 - Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,
John.5.29 - And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.

Our life here on earth is temporal. The earth is just like a guest house to someone who is on a journey. We are merely visitors to this earth. God is an eternal God. Therefore, everything that concerns Him is related to eternity.

A good person may experience bad things, and God may allow it to happen. Whatever evil may befall that person, it is only temporal. But when the person transits from this earth into the eternal realm, God will surely not let such befall the person. To God, that's when real life actually begins.

We are assured through God's word that the rejoicing of the wicked does not last; we see this in Job 20:4. But those who keep the faith till the end, though they may encounter trails, shall eventually be rewarded; we see this in Luke 6:20. If we hold unto these words, we have no cause to be troubled.

Have a blessed Sunday!
