I agree that it is surprising in some senses to see ex WW2 nazis in positions of authority within Nato, though I was already aware that Hitler's law maker was a signatory to the treaty of Rome and instrumental in the creation/design of the EU.

On the surface it seems that the reconstruction of Germany was seen as a necessary defence against Soviet Russia and whoever made the decisions decided to find people in Germany who had experience and who could be effective at doing that. However, how they went from managing German issues to running Nato is an interesting topic that I don't know the details of.

I looked through the wikipedia pages for the people listed above and found that a couple of them were involved in the attempted assassination of Hitler and were arrested:

"Speidel participated in the 20 July Plot to assassinate Hitler"

"he was arrested by the Gestapo for being a co-conspirator of the 20 July plot, but released on 23 October 1944 for a lack of evidence.[1][2][3] He later said:

The plotters set a good example to the army, because these men put their lives on the line against the dictator."

Another of the characters went on to become a Rhodes scholar after WW2. This is the group that is essentially right at the core of the Anglo Saxon group that has somewhat similar goals to the German Nazis and who still run much of the world today in terms of finance and covert power: @ura-soul/the-whistleblowers-series-13-representative-democracy-is-a-con-game-designed-by-a-hidden-network-of-oligarchs-a-highly-respected

It's clear that there were nazi-like 'sympathizers' in Nato and behind the scenes who enabled these outcomes, however, I personally don't see Russia as being particularly different to the Nazi groups in a variety of ways. It is ironic that pro Russians don't see that the evils of the soviet regime haven't entirely gone away - and in fact I know personally that some older people harken back to the Soviet era as a great time (since they have memory loss and were possibly among the small minority of people who lived reasonable lives)!

Essentially, there are psychotic people in positions of power in a large percentage of the world's nations and it is not surprising that the result is war from time to time. Picking a side in such a situation is a fool's errand.
