Back in secondary school, Abasi-ibiangake, a fair-skinned girl from Akwa Ibom state, was my colleague. Regardless of what happened, she was a buddy with whom I could not joke. Because of how we generally do things together, everyone assumed we were dating.
Comfort, my class representative had a profound crush on me that I was even unaware of. She was usually agitated whenever she saw me with another girl, especially Abasi-ibiangake.
Comfort confessed to me that she loved me: “This is infatuation,” I angrily replied. I was taken aback because Comfort wasn't the type of person who would want to date a poor boy like me, so I declined.
.I wasn't feeling well one day; I had a temperature and a severe migraine. I was on the verge of losing my mind as a result of this situation. I was irritated by everyone who came to say sorry. I was sent to the school clinic for injection and drug treatments.
When I entered our class the next day, everyone's cheeks, except Abasi- ibiangake's, were expanding and their teeth were showing. I entered the classroom silently, my gaze fixed on the floor. I hid my face after burying my butt in my locker.
Abasi-ibiangake approached me after I had sat down for a few minutes. She was upset, so I shifted to make room for her to sit with me. I felt ashamed after remembering everything I had done to her.
"You yelled at me yesterday, but I understood you. I'm not upset because you yelled at me; I'm upset because you'll soon miss me and understand how much I adore you as my best friend.” Abasi-ibiangake mumbled.
"Please understand, I had a rough day yesterday and have no idea why I acted the way I did. Please accept my sincere apologies. On a regular day, I wouldn't have done that; at the very least, that should have shown that I wasn't feeling well." I begged Abasi-ibiangake to forgive me.
