I believe that whether it is a child or an adult, a person goes astray only when they do not receive appropriate and full punishment for their mistakes; escaping without severe consequences leads them to think, "I can get away with this," and convinces them that the boundary of wrongdoing lies somewhere further ahead.
Before granting a rapist another chance, those judges and lawmakers simply need to ask themselves: what would happen if that criminal committed the same crime again? Who would take responsibility for it? And would those who advocated for giving the criminal another chance face punishment themselves in such a scenario?
