My Home Terrace Garden #3 | Growing Carrot From Seeds

Once again welcome all of you to my home terrace #garden. Remember, in my previous blog, I shared with you the journey of radish seeds from planting to germination. Today we will talk about the growth of another vegetable sown with radish on the same day, which is carrot.

Yes, on that same day, about a month ago, I had also sown carrot seeds in one big container. I have grown radish for the first time this time but I have grown carrot once before too, so I had some knowledge about it. After reading a little I found out that the harvest time of these two vegetables which seem to be from the same family is quite different from each other. While it takes about 50 days for the radish crop to be ready, on the other hand, it takes 80 to 90 days for the carrot crop to be ready.
For this reason, when I posted that blog on radish plants, the carrot seeds had not even germinated. Because carrots have to spend almost twice as much time in the soil as radishes.

But now that those seeds have finally grown and the plants have taken hold of the soil, let me tell you how this journey has been so far.

First of all, look at the #carrot seeds, they look somewhat like fennel seeds but are slightly flattened and curved in the middle.

Due to the carrot seeds' shape and my lack of professionalism, I sowed 2-3 seeds at each spot and kept a distance of 4 square inches between each spot as I didn't know how their germination would be, so I did this in the hope of getting at least one plant from each hole.

I used this old plastic basket which has a length of 20 inches, width of 14 inches and depth of 11 inches.

The main reason for using it is its larger size compared to a regular pot. Because for root vegetables, the more space in the soil in one place, the better.
And I have not added anything special to the soil. I have prepared this soil by mixing normal farm soil, coco peat, sand, and cow dung manure in almost equal quantities. I'm telling you this so you can understand how easy it is to grow your own vegetables.

By looking at the image above you can understand how I made about a 1-inch hole in the soil with the help of a pen, put approximately 2-3 seeds in each hole, kept a distance of 4 square inches between each spot, covered them with soil, and sprinkled some water.

The radish plants had grown 3-4 inches above the soil and most of the carrot seeds had not even germinated.

At first, I felt a little sad, I thought maybe I had made some mistake in sowing.
Then after acquiring some knowledge about them, I came to know that the harvest time of these two vegetables which seem to be from the same family is quite different from each other. Carrot harvesting takes almost twice as long as radish harvesting. According to this the germination time of their seeds is also different.

Then about 15 days after sowing, I finally saw some small plants popping out of the soil.

Here let me tell you one important thing. Newly germinated carrot #plants look exactly like grass, do not make the mistake of uprooting them in a hurry.

After waiting for a few more days, you may see some plants coming out of the soil along with the shells of the seed, which you can understand by looking at the pictures above.

The day I saw these little plants emerging from the soil with their seed shells, I was truly very happy. Mainly because they gave me the good news that The Seeds I Sowed Have Now Come To #LIFE.

Then after a few more days, I saw the signature pattern of carrot leaves, after which I was even more sure and happy that it was not just grass.

And then a month after sowing, the signature pattern of carrot leaves started fluttering on almost all the plants.

However, the empty space you see between the plants in the #image above is because some of the seeds I sowed did not germinate, but those that did germinate are growing quite well.

Now, here is my carrot #crop of about 45 days in front of you all. And now when these plants grew a little, I thought why not take you all among these plants through some pictures.
