Nobody would expect that a week from now everybody would have gone nuts with an Arts & Culture app. Even though ,it may sound a bit crazy, it’s actually a fact. Google now has one more reason to be happy after their last accomplishment. The app is totally free and it offers a new feature that uses computer vision to map your face against people in portraits from around the world.
How it works
It looks at your face, creates a ‘faceprint’ (based on key distances and sizes) and scours the highbrow world of paintings for similarities. Is there a 20th Century painting of a priest that looks a lot like you? Did the 5th Century Greek philosopher Socrates totally had your features? More than 70,000 masterpieces of art are within the database, so there are high chances to match your unique face with a portrait.
Try it yourself
Once you have the Google Arts & Culture App on your phone you're settled to check yourself which famous portrait looks just like you. These are the steps you need to follow. After you download the app, the only thing you need to do is open it, scroll down until you see the section that asks, "Is your portrait in a museum?" and then tap the "get started" button. Unfortunately, an instant selfie is needed to continue the process. Don’t be surprised if you get different results on each selfie try. It is quite possible to get different results for each snap depending on the picture’s angle.
