“Who do us like this?” is a common expression that Nigerians use to show utmost frustration at the depressing and agitating state of the country.

Though a rhetorical question, my answer is “We do.” We do ourselves the utmost evil.

“We” captures the following:

those elected into positions of leadership who are today busy singing ”buga won” up and down while the people they represent are literally dying;

those citizens getting ridiculous amounts in exchange for their votes, forgetting they are selling off their lives;

those doing worse than our elected officials in their small civil service corners where their atrocities are hidden;

those campaigning on shaky sentiments of tribe and religion at the expense of a country in this disturbing state;

those using their present positions to amass “hot wealth” - in this group are some bankers, Some POS operators, filling station managers and attendants;

the bodies and associations in charge of Nigerian workers who have become totally passive when they are supposed to be the voice of the people;

all of the old generation who watched till that small “sòbìyà” Nigeria had degenerated to this big sore.

I sincerely hope we will stop being the knife that ruins its own house, thinking it is ruining the sheath.

We should not make God look wicked any longer because as long as we pray and do these wrong things, only mercy can intervene. Unfortunately, mercy is not automatic as God will have mercy only on whom He chooses to.

May we act better and attract God’s mercy in Nigeria.
