Humbly and probably without full understanding, I think that the steemit system of rewards is horrible. Without complex explanations not easy to find, it appears to be grossly unfair and somewhat senseless. Especially, to a new user. Because of that, I think that many good people do not contribute to steemit. I would do away with curation awards and make all votes equal in value regardless of reputation or whatever other complex method is being used. One vote, one reward regardless of who is posting or who is voting. Or, maybe better, one view one reward regardless of other factors. Or, one vote only after one view. Also, the tales about whales or people with huge power makes me reluctant to offer any kind of criticism.
