“Leaving Your Spouse To Marry Another Person is a Criminal Offence”
Where a spouse abandons his/her partner of an English marriage without a divorce and proceeds to marry another person, such a spouse has committed a crime. The crime is bigamy and punishable with 7 years imprisonment. Note that bigamy is no longer a crime in Lagos state.
