Reading your thoughts feels really painful... I feel really sorry about the way you feel and what you have experienced, and all that pain, knowing also that you have such great talents in writing (and fore sure in many other areas as well)! Nah, that is just painful. I really do hope you will find some even more awesome friends in the future that will be next to you and with you in thick and thin, no matter what!

However, my approach to the quote itself is more like a way of opening yourself up to people and to be a people person, one who doesn't just hide away, but who shows a genuine interest in the people around you. That will be attractive to others, and even though few will actually end up being real friends, it will still make it easier to actual discover those that might end up being your real friends sometime in the future!
