This week will be one to forget, for many football fans that love entertainment anyway. In less than 24 hours we saw a complete reversal of fortunes that resulted in the exit of the two most promising teams in the Uefa Champions League.
BARCELONA vs LIVERPOOL
On Tuesday, Liverpool pulled a sensational comeback at the Anfield Stadium. They beat competitions favorite Barcelona in a controversial 4-0 match. Barcelona had won the first leg 3-0 and it was a very painful spectacle watching them just shut down and crash.
So painful that after the game, star man Leonel Messi refused to go home with the club bus. Opting to vent his anger and pain in the dressing room. Messi had absolutely destroyed Liverpool in the first encounter hitting his 600th goal milestone. It was simply appalling that none of his teammates could step up to assist him.
In this tweet you can even see the disrespect metted out to the 5 time Balon d'or winner.
AJAX vs TOTTENHAM
In the first leg, Ajax edged tottenham by a single goal in tottenhams home stadium. At the Johan Cruijff Arena Ajax scored 2 goals in the first half to take the aggregate to 3-0. It was a job done and dusted.. or so everyone thought. Often benched tottenham skipper Lucas Moura scored a second half hattrick and left the hosts looking stupefied as tottenham stole the game at the last minute. It was an emotional night.
And just like that, what would have been a finals honouring Barcelona and Ajax legend Johan Cruyff changed into a Liverpool and Tottenham finals which many say would honour their mutual legend Peter Crouch.
Football is so full of surprises.
