As a human, it breaks my heart to see how domestic violence tears families apart, especially when the home should be a place of peace and love. From a biblical perspective, domestic violence is completely against God’s design for relationships. Ephesians 5:28-29 urges husbands to love their wives as they love their own bodies nourishing and cherishing them. Nowhere in scripture does God approve of abuse, whether physical, emotional, or verbal. Instead, the Bible promotes mutual respect, patience, and sacrificial love within the home. A person who claims to love God but harms their partner is living in contradiction to the teachings of Christ.
As someone who believes in the power of scripture to guide us, it’s clear that domestic violence is not just a social issue it’s a spiritual one.
Colossians 3:19 warns, “Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them.”
God’s word consistently calls for gentleness, self-control, and compassion. Abuse thrives in silence and fear, but the Bible calls believers to speak up for the oppressed and stand against injustice (Proverbs 31:8-9). Churches and Christians have a duty to protect victims, offer safe refuge, and lead abusers to repentance and transformation through God’s truth. Love must be safe not something to fear.
