TOPIC: The sound of letter Uu.

BEHAVIOURAL OBJECTIVES; During and at the end of the lesson,the students should be able to;
i) Identify and write letter Uu
ii) produce the sound of letter Uu
ii) Mention words with the sound of letter Uu
INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIAL; A wall chart showing objects with the sounds of letter Uu.
INTRODUCTION; To begin the lesson, the pupils will be reminded of the lesson on the sounds of letter Ss and Tt.
PRESENTATION;
step 1: Teach the pupils that letter Uu is the twenty-first letter of the alphabet. To write letter Uu, you begin at a point then write a stroke down then slide upwards as if you are drawing the curved handle of an umbrella..
Step 2: Teach the pupils that letter Uu has two sounds. The Long sound and the Short Sound.
The short sound of letter Uu is /^/ and on the other hand, the long sound of letter Uu is /ju:/
Step 3: Here are some words example for the short sound of letter Uu;
- Sun
- Umbrella
- Under
Words example for the long sound of letter Uu is;
- Uniform
- Unicorn
- Unit
EVALUATION: To evaluate the lesson, the following questions will be asked orally thus:
i) How many sounds does letter Uu have ____?
ii) The Long sound of letter Uu is_________ ?
iii) Mention 2 words for the short sound of letter Uu
HOMEWORK; write two words each for the sounds of letter Uu.
