Sometimes, we learn the most impressive things by mere chance. Recently, a family from Utah decided to buy a #DNA test kit just for fun. The idea was to learn a little about the history of the family’s ancestors and have a good time discovering the data, what they did not expect was that the results would change their lives forever.
Donna and Vanner Johnson have been married for almost two decades now and at the beginning of their marriage they had their first child, a few years later they tried to have a second child however, they discovered that they could not achieve it so they decided to turn to in vitro fertilization.
They finally managed to conceive their son through this method and 12 years ago their second child was born. Now when Vanner took a DNA test he discovered that he is not the biological father of this child. They realized this because the results indicated that the children were only half-siblings.
As reported Donna and Vanner contacted the fertilization clinic to understand what had happened and after investigating they confirmed that Donna’s egg had been mistaken and accidentally fertilized with the sperm of some other man.
“I understand that this possibility exists, but it is very remote. We have had to overcome many emotions. First, to separate from this issue the love we have for our son who has not changed. And at the same time, continue to deal with the problem,” said Vanner.
The surprised couple reported the situation to their children and then set out to locate the biological father to also inform him of everything that happened.
The two couples are in the process of taking legal action against the fertility clinic as they consider that the expectations they had regarding the caution that should have been during the procedure were not met.
