To a greater length, the existence of non-humans especially the kinds of animals and plants has always been one of the additions that makes life beautiful.
I am always well pleased whenever I acknowledge the potential of animals and plants in our environment every time I get exposed because both have contributions that go beyond measure.
Specifically, I am glad I am not zoophobic. I love the animal world more so to say. Why? Maybe because of their personality, feeding habits, predator skills, prey resistance, sensitivity, resilience, dentition, life span, wild nature or domestic nature etc…
I am eager to watch animal documentaries if an opportunity presents itself any day, any time. I learn a lot from the research filming surrounding them on cable TV.
The advantage I gain is encompassing because my knowledge level increases, perspective changes, uncertainty or doubt clears away and lastly my likeness or dissatisfaction towards certain species could change.
However, I am not here to talk about the animal kingdom, rather I am here to express my thoughts towards a certain experience I had with a dog.
Dogs are domestic animals, they are man's best friend. On an average of every one to two houses in a street, there's every tendency that you will find a dog as a pet in someone's home.
Dogs are smart, friendly, agile, attentive, offer companionship, loyal, cheerful, lovely, smart, strong, resilient, protective, vigilant, diligent, brave and charming.
I know there are some that are cynophobic about dogs. The phobia must have arisen due to horrible past experience, inbuilt fear or dislike from unexplainable reasons.
I as a person, only exhibit temporary cynophobia if the dog in question is not bred by me or by someone related to me which I visit frequently.
Also, if the dog is owned by a stranger. One big personality of dogs is that they demonstrate antithetical traits if you are an unfamiliar face before their eyes.
The tongue and teeth in which they use to play will switch to an instrument that bites, sending a warning of intrusion and a symbol of unwelcoming to the person bitten.
My first bite from a dog
I remember that year I was bitten by a dog. Damn, I almost ran mad. It wasn't a pleasant experience. And I didn't expect the dog who was jovial and friendly to me in the daytime to be vicious at night.
There was a particular woman that supplies my mom with snacks ranging from sausage rolls, meat pies, cakes, doughnuts to fish pie.
She lived in a building close to my mom's store. She was good in confectionery and small chops. She lived in a compound where the landlord had about two dogs.
They were there for security purposes anyways but the landlords were rich couples but you see, these dogs were friendly. Anytime I went to her house to pick up my mom's booking for the day, these dogs were always on the loose and harmless.
One night, she came back from a stressful outing and branched at my mom's store. She needed help with a particular commodity that was heavy. So she requested my help and without thinking twice I decided to give her an extra hand. She was thankful.
We got to her place of abode in about 7 mins, entered the compound and saw the dogs who was friendly to me on patrol scurrying around. On my way back to my mom's store while exiting the building, one of those dogs came from behind and sneaked upon me, leaving a deep bite on the back of my lap.
Damn, I couldn't explain it. I was perplexed. Till date I can't grok why that dog attacked me. The bite wasn't continuous. It just bit me as a one time thing and fled away.
Well, after that day little dosage of cynophobia began to grip me on and off but what relieved me was when I heard that those dogs were on weekly and monthly vaccination by the owners because I have seen people display symptoms of rabies from infectious bite of untreated dogs.
Dogs are beautiful pets no doubt but a bad experience can cloud the heart from loving them. My experience with my first bite ever almost cornered me to hate them for life but I just couldn't. It was impossible. Lol.
