Each day I rest my hands upon the wall
After being teased by my friends in the hall,
They say I can't play football
'Cos I am too small.
They haven't seen me play before
So I wonder why they say “I can't score?”
I made a bet beside a store,
I must score, this I swore.
The date was set, the day came, I must show them what I've got,
I walked onto the field, I had this feeling, this panic that I might not score,
This made my legs tremble - my boots felt hot,
Then.... I remembered I swore to score a goal before four.
This was my entry to @winarobert |
@wolfgang-alpha 's dsw show.. The theme was about "anxiety". I took my thoughts to the commonest anxiety found in peer groups especially in rivalry or bragging rights of football. The appraisal I received on my entry was encouraging, the host and audience felt it was incomplete, I should have added more lines to the piece about me scoring that goal. I wanted something short, maybe next time... I'll make an entry that scores a goal. To be honest, I don't know why my fingers stopped writing at that point.
