Back in 2014 I was interested in Bitcoin only because of potential of the price increasing but as I didn't have capital to buy it I earned through hard (stupid) ways like via faucets/shady apps on mobile.
Fast forward around the time Bitcoin price spiked to around $4000 I was curious on how people can trust an Internet that's not being managed by any central authority. I learned how a proof-of-work blockchain actually work and intrigued by it.
The reason why I love blockchains as a storage of value is because I never trusted banks to use MY funds stored by them ethically. I am personally against interests on debts. All money I store on blockhains in form of cryptos are 100% under my control just like cash are. Though the volatility of Cryptocurrencies discourages me to store a significant portion of my money in cryptos. I also like cryptos a lot for international transfers due too extremely low fees compared to a bank wire transfer.
As time goes on I learned that Bitcoin, Ether, Litecoin, and Dogecoin are not the only blockchains and blockchains can be developed to have a lot more applications aside from only as a storage of value (which Steem is included of course) and there are consensus algorithms other than proof-of-work. I am excited to see what blockchain tech can bring in the future.
