Why is there so much evil in this world?

It's simply our collective transgressions that brings evil to the world. In Amos 4:6, the Lord said we have not come back to him in spite of the provisions he provided for us.
Though he was directly talking to Israelites, he is also talking to us.
God set them free from bondage in Egypt, and provided for them throughout the 40 years of journey in the wilderness. The Divine providence gave them all they needed, including water and food. Even their clothes and shoes were not wornout according to Deut. 29:5.
In Exodus 12:35-36, we see that God made it possible for them to get favour from the Egyptians who lent them things they required.
In spite of this mercy of God, they sinned and turned their back on him. This was why God spoke through prophet Amos, saying that Israel had refused to return to him.
