I suspect the reason is because if they turned on keychain on the Steemitwallet.com page there would be all sorts of questions created concerning why the actual Steem-engine tokens ENG and various SE supported tokens are not displayed on the text of the wallet page, like they even are on SteemPeak.com https://Steempeak.com If SteemPeak had Keychain support it would make sense as they actually display steem engine tokens in the wallet page.
