The League of Cambrai was a coalition of the strongest European states against the Republic of Venice, which was organized among the various agreements signed in the city of Cambrai on December 10, 1508. This League was one of the most important during the period of the Italian Wars that faced the different powers for these territories.
This League would be constituted by the Kingdom of France, the Papal States, the Holy German Roman Empire, the Crown of Aragon and the Duchy of Ferrara. The objective of this alliance and mainly of Pope Julius II was to diminish the Venetian influence in the north of Italy and for that reason this alliance would be conformed by the aforementioned great European powers.
Battles large as those of Agnadello made the League obtain a resounding victory over the Venetian armies, Venice would be stripped of all its territories on the mainland, among the aforementioned agreements prior to the division and division of lands among the allies. In the end the territory would be divided among the league as follows:
Holy Roman Empire adjoining Verona, Vicenza, Padua and Friuli.
France will integrate Brescia, Crema, Bergamo and Cremona into their territories in Milan.
Aragon Annexary Otranto.
Finally the Papal States would stay with Rimini and Ravenna.
But, shortly after the end of the armed conflict, differences arose between the allies and the emergence again of the Venetian diplomacy that led to the dissolution of the League in 1510.
