Still basking in the euphoria of the just concluded world cup in Qatar I must say . Like that is not enough the god of football had to bring club football ball almost immediately.
It's the boxing day today and guess what ??!! yeah right! Our beloved English premier league is back . The feeling is always surreal when the epl is in session. I mean it is a pretty decent and competitive league so I wonder why a staunch football lover won't find the premier league interesting .
I'm most concerned about my favorite club in the league , Arsenal. The north London team no doubt have been one of the biggest and most successful clubs of the Premier League era but surprisingly enough, Arsenal haven't been top at Christmas on a regular basis. Only twice, in fact.
The 2002-2003 and 2007-2008 epl seasons respectively were the only times Arsenal finish top before a boxing day fixture. Why I'm worried is because at these two occasions Arsenal failed to win the league in both occasions as Man UTD pipped us off the title in both seasons .
Fast forward to the 2022-2023 season , we are at that not too familiar road again. Can the Gunners break the jinx this time and clinch the title come end of the season ? If you ask me I'll say it's a tough call for me.
For one I'm so glad we didn't have much injury blow as regards players at Arsenal who participated at the just concluded world cup. Gabriel Jesus was a major blow though but I'm glad it stopped with him.
Arsenal's familiar demon it tends to fight over the years has been that of injuries raising it's ugly head especially by affecting important players of the squad .The 2007-2008 season is a classic reminder. Eduardo Da Silva's injury back then dealt a major blow to Arsenal's trophy chase .
Moving forward I hope the team can put on the solid performance they exhibited in the first half of the season and replicate it this current second half of the season.
Honestly it is really not going to be an easy job as any slack from the team might leave them biting their nails in regret. I mean Man City ain't joking one bit . They can't be written off so also Newcastle!
I really do not know the latest on the Mudryk deal but him wearing the Arsenal shirt will be so instrumental to the team's chances of winning the league .
That aside the current players need to put in their very best and again nothing but the best for them to secure the title . It is not a smooth road so they really have to put their all in it after all " it is all or nothing "
In some minutes we will be playing Westham Utd at the Emirates. I hope the boys claim a victory tonight because it will really go a long way and I'm sure they know that . What can I say other than COYG!!
