I think you are right. They look like brick caps to me! You do typically see a similar brick-red color as shown in the center of the cap becoming more and more pronounced on the stem as you move from the underside of the cap to the base of the stem, but this is not always the case. It's not unheard of the find brick caps with fairly pale stems like shown here.
