They may have been. They aren't far off the trail and the other forager I ran into said that he had been returning to that log for the last three years.

This was really helpful. I wasn't aware of how similar looking all of these species were until reading that guide. After looking back at my pictures, they do look more like the images of G. korfii or G.

Thanks for sharing! Not sure I'm brave enough to try cooking them myself, but interesting info nonetheless.

Very interesting, thank you for sharing! I hadn't heard much for how to prepare them to make them nontoxic. Do you know what the boiling does to them? Breaks down the toxins I assume?

Thank you for another week by the fire @bambuka. My recent morel hunts have left we with no morels, but plenty of pictures of other fungi. Here are 3 large pieces of Ganoderma lobatum I found growing from

Thank you! It is a good mushroom hunting spot. I keep checking every few days for morels, but I haven't found any quite yet.

I can't find anything with as dark of an underside as what you show here either. Hard to say what they are. Maybe it's discoloration from decay?

I agree. Little Brown Mushrooms (LBMs) are notoriously difficult to ID in the field. For the second mushroom, it looks to me like some species of Chanterelle, though that would be a pretty early fruiting
