Is the combat system any good?

Yes its really good. There is a lot of cool things you can do with your party. I don't even remember half of the combos, but you can combine so many things to get cool combos.

What are your thoughts of the game?

I played Tales of Berseria and now Tales of Arises, in both games I love story and the custcenes, dialogues are really nice. I feel like watching a good anime or movie. Every character is unique and I love it. Also towns, each time u visit a new time the vibe is different and its story is so good.

I tried Scarlet Nexus that seems very similar to this, I liked how the game looked and the combat system but the whole story and characters were very bad (imho).

Here in Tales of Arise its different. Story and characters are good, but I think Scarlet Nexus have better combat. Its just my opinion. I quit Scarlet Nexus really fast and here story keeps me playing.

I saw this one few months ago and I wanted to check it out but then Elden Ring came out and now I'm playing that, once I finish that I want to go back to replay Dark Souls 1-2-3, Sekiro and Bloodbourne so I think I will skip playing Tales of Arise.

Yea man, looks like you love challenging games so keep playing them. I also think you should try Nioh 1/2 (especially 2 is amazing). This is also really hard game, soulslike.

I was looking forwards to Final Fantasy Stranger of Paradise but that doesn't look too good...

yea I've heared its not that good. I'm not a big fan of Final Fantasy games. I think Final Fantasy MMO is amazing tho. But I couldn't get into FF single player games.

Yes! My favorite one is Elden Ring. I have Let's play series from that game and I love it. But Dark Souls seems like too hard for me. I gave up really quickly.
