My Top Posts on Steemit for August, Categorized and Summarized

Here is a summary of what I post on Steemit. I also posts about life, photography, cryptocurrency and philosophy on top of my usual posts in the following categories. If this is the first post you have seen from me, let me introduce myself.

GIMP Video Tutorial Series

Part I: How to Edit Photos
Part II: How to Add A Cutout to New Image
Part III: How to Create 3D Text
Part IV: How to Create a [Static] Banner
Part V: How to Create an Animated Banner

Part I is a short video showing the process of how to use the Free Select tool to cutout an image from a photograph to use on another image or with another background.

Part II is the follow-up video going into more detail about adding the cutout from Part I into a new environment and making it look like it belongs.

Part III covers 3D Text creation for use as a logo, splash, banner or website using the tools available in GIMP. We can make some nice effects with layering and opacity.

Part IV is the introduction of making unique banners from scratch. In this video we made a standard 468x60 pixel banner for Steemit, which is available on CoinThru for use.

Part V took it a step further by introducing animation to your banners through the use of (100 ms) milliseconds and (combine) labels in your layers. We made another standard size banner of 250x250 pixels.

PHP Programming Tutorial Series

Video I: How to Create Dynamic Banners in PHP
Video II: How to Convert a JSON API Request to PHP

In Video I we created dynamic banners through GET requests and created a new PNG image from those parameters. The PHP library called GD allows us to either save or display our new image. This is a useful tool for anyone hosting a website who would like to let their visitors customize their avatar or promotional banners. We made one for Steemit, which is still available for use under Steemit Tools on CoinThru.

Video II was a little more advanced, parsing API data from JSON into PHP arrays for server-side variables to call on our website. First, we made the request from another server, using the API URL provided. Then we convert the data into PHP format with a function and determine whether to save it as an object or array. Now that the values are stored, you can call them anytime throughout your page.

Tools For Steemit and Altcoins

This section will be brief as I publish all of my tools on CoinThru.com.

STEEM - Steemit Potential SP Growth, announced in this post and the Dynamic Banners were listed in PHP Video I post.

Price Tool - Update: Altcoin Price Conversion announced more options to support multiple coin pairs and fixed conversion prices. Plus widgets were added for instant altcoin exchanges without leaving the page.

Summary

I joined Steemit on August 30, 2016 and just became active in the last week of July this year. Yep, my 1 year Steemit anniversary is in 7 days!

Since I've been active here, I've done a lot of research on how it works and realized the potential pretty quickly. The platform is intuitive, meaning you make more when you are honest and actively do what you would on your blog anyway. Engage and provide creative content.

I look forward to doing my part to bring Steemit into the future through means suited to my skillset. For now that means creating tools, possibly getting into the Dev forums and spreading the word. In the near future, as my little minnow grows flippers, I intend to take on the role of witness. Operating a full seed and node. There is much to be done until then.

Thanks for reading. If you enjoy my posts, follow me, leave me feedback or just up-vote. :)
