Is India too proud, very self-reliant, or something else altogether, what has motivated the country for refusing relief aid from UAE, Maldives, and Qatar in the Kerala floods?

UAE, for example, has offered a $100 million relief aid for Kerala floods, with no strings attached. And Kerala desperately wants the money, but the central govt has come in the way.

The affected people from the Indian southern state of Kerala are miffed. "What the centre is doing is cruel", remarked Dr. K.G. Thara, Former head, Disaster Management Cell, Kerala. "It's politically motivated", she added.

According to Kerala's Finance Minister Dr. Thomas Isaac, the Centre’s stand was based on ‘false prestige’ and that the govt has no right to curb Kerala’s appeal for outside help.
