I am making an EDIT because I had a few other comments that didn't quite capture what I am saying.
In my view, muting should only disallow someone from posting/commenting on something, not disallow them to upvote/downvote.
I don't believe that azircon should have been muted for this. Muting is the last and final tool available that should only be used in extreme circumstances, it is the nuclear option.
Azircon only had about 400 PoB when he was downvoting, the creator of PoB has about 86k, he can simply upvote at a low percentage to counter any downvotes.
If Azircon had a lot more stake and was downvoting them the PoB creator could still likely have counter the downvote.
If that doesn't work PoB creator coudl have simply asked him to please stop and try to sort out the situation(maybe propose a cease fire?)
What is the situation? That there are not many people getting big upvotes on PoB and it is turning into a centralized thing with a few people controlling most of the stake. That is due to how people are curating there.
The PoB creator could have just agreed to curate better and try to spread it around and essentially azircon would have been ok with that(from what I understand, this was one of the main issues). A community in the beginning should have as many people with as many tokens as possible so as not to have entrenched permanent whales, that is the goal.
While several POB members crib about censorship & dictatorship on Hive, muting someone from the whole platform/tribe is actually censorship. Downvoting is not though! I have said it previously, it's such a negative word, we should change it to something like 'Rewards Pool Replenisher'. 😂
I want to point out something that is pretty obvious but most people don't see it for some reason, these 2nd layer tokens are "Communities".
PoB didn't "make a tool that allows them to mute people and make it so they can't curate/post" the people who created Hive Engine did that, all 2nd layer tokens(Communities) can do this at any time. So if you think it's just PoB..... Hive Engine had specific reasons of allowing the Community to get rid of people from said Community and or punish bad actors, those are the tools they created and those are the tools the owner of the Community has.
Anyway, I was baffled to see Lucylin's rants getting tons of rewards from
@proofofbrainio being the largest stakeholder on the platform. He upvotes and supports a lot of good stuff too but then it is within a circle of specific people which is not great practice as a tribe owner. Since it's a new tribe, I can understand why that circle is small right now and many of these rewards are going to responsible people/projects who are further helping with the distribution.
This whole Lucylin scenario made me sick to the core not because I am jealous that he is getting more rewards than me but because he eating away too much from the community's reward pool. I spend a lot of time creating my posts. Idea, research, drafting, proofreading, editing, graphics - All these activities take so much time yet I get no upvotes while Lucy takes them all. Lol, jk! I get upvotes for my hard work from good peeps but I would get more in rewards if folks like Lucy don't get overrewarded. I am sure there are many people like me, but most of us will not be able to do anything about it since we are too small.
I don't see other community members downvoting him the last I checked a week or so ago, it was mostly upvotes(recalling from memory, I could be wrong). That's fine that he made you sick to your core and you can downvote him then if you want to balance it to what you think is the right amount of rewards.

In the end, I am hoping this drama to end soon. When egos are hurt and things start to get personal, it's a shitshow for everyone involved.
Just reiterating that all 2nd layer tokens have the mute functions and ability to remove people from curating, so this affects all.
It is necessary for there to be some centralization in the beginning of making a community, otherwise any random whale can buy up a token and just DV everything and ruin what you try to make. The person creating the project would then have all their work taken away by one person who disagrees with them. I think if everyone understand what a Community is going into it, and are comfortable investing into it, then it's likely ok.
From what I read and see happening around here, almost nobody understands or attempts to understand how 2nd layer token Communities work/the functions they have. I admit it is hard to understand all of this, we defintely need some people to do a deepdive on communities and detail all of the things about it, the tools, how something can be used for good or bad, how things work, tokenomics, etc.
Buyer beware, if you are buying something and don't understand it there is potential for a problem/loss. This is why I largely have not bought much of any community token, I didn't understand it. The posts coming out recently about it helps but we still need more.
