After listening to a recent YouTube video by Glendon Cameron, the subject of fairness came up.
The World is not fair. We want to think that it is.
As world markets fall and the results of lockdown become more apparent fairness seems far away.
As an essential worker, I was envious for a time when coworkers got to stay home. I enjoyed less traffic, but no other perks. Gas prices were lower for a time too, but I was required to be at work during the pandemic and life continued for me as it had before.
Fairness is what we use to try to make sense of a world of concentrated resources and "might makes right" mentality. I often wish that an injustice in a system could be fixed and resources restored, but this is often wishful thinking. Focusing on the fact that life and certain actions aren't fair can paralyze us to action. We simply need to keep moving and try to right the wrongs we see in society.
Cultivate fairness in the way you conduct yourself. See the world the way that it is and not through a lense you want to see it in. Acknowledge that injustices exist but you don't need to be a part of their administration.
