Telehealth became a major utilized technology during the pandemic. Companies including Teledoc used voice and video calling to diagnose and treat illnesses. The next step in remote patient monitoring is to predict issues with drugs and health interactions. Medical technology and attention can help enable doctors to predict their next moves.

Currently, insurance companies may dictate the medicines used to treat illnesses. Medical technology meets standard control measures and listed approved medications. Predictive medicine uses technology and gives latitude to parctitioners to use their expertise. Chosing the right drug for the current stage of a disease is key, and new technological integration and testing is the future for predictive medicine.

In predictive medicine, a patient may wear a monitor that checks to see how the medicine works during treatment, and what should be done next. This enables specialists and doctors to pick from a larger variety of treatments. The caveat is that we need to free doctors from the iron grasp on insurance providers. Often times, a provider may consider a medication to treat their patient only to be required or heavily persuaded to use a certain drug.

The underlying cause of an illness may be different from that which is presented. But, a big problem for predictive medicine is that it is cheaper and less profitable than treating symptoms. Preventative medicine can be treating the underlying root cause with a cheaper medicine, exercise, antibiotics or behavioral intervention. It can be beneficial and cost efficient.

In future predictive medical practices, smart devices and telehealth interact with the patient to correct root causes. Our smart devices and telehealth appointments can be used to pinpoint root causes along with standard medical devices. Our smart phones, fit bits and exercise devices all record vitals and we can use medical monitors to learn about how to help a patient recover. Sometimes new technology is an extension of emulation of old methods we abandoned.
