I'm facing some major challenges right now. Many people around the world are facing economic hardships on top of whatever else they may be going through and I am no exception to this. In order to thrive in life we have to abandon our scarcity mindset but we also have to break down our problems.
There's a classic saying regarding huge problems but if you want to eat an elephant you got to do it one bite at a time. Facing large problems requires us to break them down at a manageable bites. If we don't do this we're going to find ourselves staring down a huge problem we're going to become paralyzed we're going to procrastinate and things are going to get worse.
My problem is twofold recently I had a major issue at my house and I got into debt. I'm staring down a financial issue and I have things that need to be fixed at my house in our long overdue. I'll admit I was very overwhelmed looking at this problem was basically something was going to cost thousands of dollars to fix and I wanted to get out of debt two huge issues that I have that need to be addressed. To eat this elephant I'm going to need to break it down.
The first step was to isolate the issue I put in work to make sure that all my things are going to be fixed at the house. I then decided to look at the financial hit I was going to take which was substantial. I involved the insurance company contractors I looked at what money I had and I decided on a schedule of payment.
The next step was taking an assessment of what I wanted my solution to look like. I want to fix everything and get it on a maintenance schedule that way that the next time I have to fix something it isn't an emergency. Next I want to have a short-term emergency fund, a long-term emergency fund and I also want to have padding in my checking account to handle any issues that might arise. I also put it to a timeline we want to make sure that we have a timeline so we don't stay procrastinating or stay in a state of anxiety my timeline is one year. I'm starting right now and I'm giving myself one year this will be over I'm going to get through this this is something that we'll get fixed and that's that.
The next step to solving problems is to put in the work. on paper this look like a major disaster once I started working on the problem it looked better and better. A big part of thriving is to take a realistic assessment and not blow things out of proportion, and then to make sure you actually take steps- don't dream act.
It's important to find a framework to help you fix issues. My framework is my belief in God and also the Dave Ramsey plan. I know things will get better I know I have a plan I know I need to take action and I have a framework upon which to hang this issue. but I need to take those first steps tomorrow is my paycheck and I need to make sure that I'm making progress each and every check towards this issue. I'm breaking it down for each of my goals there's 26 checks in a year so I'm going to take a certain amount of each check and delegate it to this issue to be fixed. Money is like a tool it's like a shovel that you can use to get out of an issue make sure you're not taking on debt and you're taking steps even if they're small to get out of debt.
What problems are you facing? Have you ever been in a big hole and dug yourself out? Let me know.
God is love, bless up
