A few days ago we met a sexy skinny eagle and a sexy chubby one ! Now it's time for another sexy beauty, once again from Germany. And once again a 5 Deutsche Mark, this time from 1973.
Let's check it out:
Definitely the sexiest one of the three we have seen so far imo! Worth noting this eagle design is almost the same one Germany used for its coat of arms.
The rest of the side is pretty standard. We have the minting date, denomination and BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND for "Federal Republic of Germany".
Did I mention this is a commemorative coin for the 125th Anniversary of the Frankfurt National Assembly? Which explains the other side:
A depiction of the German parliament in the St. Paul's church in Frankfurt and the words "FRANKFURTER NATIONALVERSAMMLUNG
1848" for "Frankfurt National Assembly 1848"
The Frankfurt Parliament (German: Frankfurter Nationalversammlung, literally Frankfurt National Assembly) was the first freely elected parliament for all German states, including the German-populated areas of Austria-Hungary,elected on 1 May 1848. The session was held from 18 May 1848 to 31 May 1849, in the Paulskirche at Frankfurt am Main. Its existence was both part of and the result of the "March Revolution" within the states of the German Confederation. [source] (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frankfurt_Parliament)
The coin edge is engraved as well:
"EINIGKEIT RECHT FREIHEIT" which are the first words of the third verse of the Deutschlandlied, Germany's national anthem. They translate to "Unity Justice Freedom"
As always, a size comparison with a standard euro coin:
Similarly to the other pieces I showed you these days, its 11.2 g heavy with a purity of 0.625.
Three beautiful pieces of German craftsmanship down. One more to go!
