What's up plebs?
Back with another epic silver Deutche Mark, this time featuring a high level priest or some shit:
So, what's the deal with this commemorative piece minted in 1990?
Well, as hinted by the inscription "KAISER FRIEDRICH I. BARBAROSSA 1122 +1190" this is a coin dedicated to emperor Friedrich I. Barbarossa, in commemoration of the 800th Anniversary since his death.
Frederick Barbarossa (December 1122 – 10 June 1190), also known as Frederick I (German: Friedrich I, Italian: Federico I), was the Holy Roman Emperor from 1155 until his death 35 years later. He was elected King of Germany in Frankfurt on 4 March 1152 and crowned in Aachen on 9 March 1152. He was crowned King of Italy on 24 April 1155 in Pavia and emperor by Pope Adrian IV on 18 June 1155 in Rome. Two years later, the term sacrum ("holy") first appeared in a document in connection with his empire. He was later formally crowned King of Burgundy, at Arles on 30 June 1178. source and more info
The icon chosen for the emperor is by Eugen Ruhl and depicts him with a scepter and a grenade Globus cruciger. Commonly known as royal orb, the orb symbolizes the earth and the cross represents Christ's dominion over the world. A really cool looking symbol if you ask me. Here's how they look irl

Moving on the other side of the coin, as always with these commemorative marks, we have a unique design of the imperial chicken
The coin comes with an engraved edge
"E HONOR IMPERII" for "Glory of the Empire" which sounds fitting for an "imperial" coin!
And that pretty much sums the whole theme of the coin. Feel free to visit any of the links above if you want to do some more reading.
Imo, one of my most beautiful German marks and a must have for anyone into crusaders history and stuff!
Silver Value
This is a typical commemorative mark when it comes to silver, which means a weight of 15.5 g with a purity of 0.635. That amounts to 9.7 g of pure silver or about 7.5 USD with today's spot price

Ok plebs, that's it for today. I'll put my little fren in its capsule now and return it to the crypt!
See you soon with more silver!
