I know the guy that found the only known to exist prototype of the SNES CD-ROM combo unit. I interviewed him years ago. I need to post the review here. I offered it to a magazine that was publishing at the time but I don't think they used it (they went belly up before publishing the issue it was to be in).

It was a fascinating stroke of luck that he came into owning it. I believe it was literally thrown out when an employee that kept it on a shelf in their office was no longer with the company - everything left was thrown away.

Amazing at how little these companies value their history. Did you hear what happened at EGM when the "new" editorial team took over and moved offices from Illinois out to California? Reportedly the staff didn't care to pack and move all the gaming memorabilia so they took turns having a "rage" room style event and literally just smashed it all and threw it away.

Decades. DECADES of stuff the magazine received over the years of being published from the late 80s up to around 2000 when they moved. Gone.

I remember working with the original owner of EGM, Steve Harris, when he bought the magazine back. We were hammering out details of launching digital versions of the original publications (went through the same thing with Gamefan, which did get 3 issues released while EGM's deal fell through at the testing phase). This was through a website I was a member of for many years, Out of Print Archive (which does have permssion from many UK publishers to release digitals of their publications).
