Anyone remember the meme about the size of Super Mario Bros on the NES versus the size of a single screenshot of the game? It is wild contrast. Keep that in mind while I tell you about The Lost Temple of Gold for the Atari 8-Bit computer line. It is only 10 lines of code big. All of it. The WHOLE game is 10 lines of code. That is shorter than this article discussing it.
I am flabbergasted at the idea that a full adventure game could be created in 10 lines of code. Sure, this is more puzzle than adventure but that just makes it even more impressive.
To me, The Lost Temple of Gold appears to have a strong Adventures of Lolo vibe but according to the developer, that is not the case. Obviously, after checking out Paganitu (I had never heard of this title before) I can see how they were inspired to create The Lost Temple of Gold.
That is the great thing about gaming, depending on your experience, you may see inspirational bits from different games.
There are many levels to traverse and disarm traps to allow your collecting the treasure safely. Five are borrowed from Paganitzu while the rest are original designs.
Once you collect all of the gold bars in the room a door will open allowing you to advance to the next room. Good luck completing this goal though, from what I have seen, some of these rooms are devious in design.
As you check out the gameplay video, keep in mind, this is all done in 10 lines of code. There were many entries in the [BASIC 10Liner Contest 2025] (https://www.homeputerium.de/), some I plan on covering here. Check out the full list and see what 10 lines of code can do.
Grab (Temple of Gold on itch.io]( https://bunsen.itch.io/the-lost-temple-of-gold-atari-8-bit-by-eric-carr). While there, maybe leave the developer some words of encouragement. If you prefer, here is a link to their YouTube channel.
