It is definitely wild how long they produced them. I remember going to Ocean to Ocean (it was a local store like Sears - they sold a little of everything) and they had brand new Atari 2600 re-releases such as Pac-Man, Missile Command, etc in silver packages for like $15. This was in 1989 or so.
The clerk remarked when I bought another copy of Asteroids that he has trouble keeping that one in stock as the 2600 was still decently popular (he went on to say they sold around 50 2600 games a week). Sure, nothing in comparison to the early days, or what Nintendo was pushing but damn impressive for a console that started in the late 70s.
