I am right there with you on that one. I remember seeing a 3DO in action for the first time. Crash n Burn looked phenomenal. Then I saw Gex in action and was sold (luckily for me shortly after EB put the system on sale for $100 clearance).
I had similar situations with PlayStation (Twisted Metal 2) and Sega Saturn (the Virtua games) as well. Nintendo 64 was still impressive with Mario but I was burned out on the Mario "collect-a-thon" formula at that point so I didn't grab one.
I still remember playing Combat, Asteroids, and Maze Craze on the Atari 2600 and thinking "how can gaming get better than this?" 😂
