I am the same. I was excited for the play system in Ikaruga but was so deflated when I got it and it just did not click with me. I did not find it entertaining or fun at all. It looks amazing but the rest of the game mechanics ruin it for me.
Ikaruga is one I have gotten more enjoyment out of watching YouTubers play it than playing it myself.
Back in the day it seemed more like designers made scrolling shooters hard via enemy placement - a hard enemy with several weaker ones pestering you as you attempted to take out the big guy for instance. Bullet hell shooters just come off as "whatever" to me. I know there is a pattern and they are possible to complete, just not by me. Lol
