I don't know how I completely forgot about Alone in the Dark, I played the first one on 3DO and loved it. Sure it was slow but at the time, what else did we have to compare it to? For me it was SNES to 3DO so the jump was amazing. I couldn't afford a computer at the time so I missed out on all the similar games that came after the PC Alone in the Dark release.
Saturn could do great 3D but it was hampered by so damn many processors and so few programmers knowing how to make them all hum in unison. This led many to minimalize their usage of the power of the Saturn.
I honestly feel the 3D stuff should have been, or at least could have been improved, through use of the cartridge slot. Whatever had to be done, the cart slot could have been used for a better 3D option or supportive 3D components.
I think the 32X made Sega wary of using that cartridge slot for anything other than a memory card in the United States. Just so much potential in that cart slot but we got really none of it in North America. Japan barely got much more than we did with RAM expansions for some games.
