When you think of Strider you probably think of the over-the-top action and corner to corner action. That is what I think of anyhow. Well, get ready, Cannon Dancer, an arcade title from 1996, is coming soon to modern platforms thanks to Inin Games. Yep, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch (no word on a Steam release). If you have not played Cannon Dancer before, then you are in for a treat. This game is action through and through – it is also a quarter muncher. Some astute arcade goers of the past may have seen this title under the name, Osman.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery

Considering Cannon Dancer’s game designer is Kouichi Yotsui and artist Utata Kiyoshi, both formerly worked on Strider, the connection to Capcom’s classic is inevitable. Instead of a sword that is upgraded, here your character is much more martial arts focused – kicks and punches being prominent attacks.

Throughout the game, you collect powerups for your character. You will need every single one you can collect.

Dystopia is a wonderful place to play

As with most games of the 80’s and 90’s, Cannon Dancer continues the dystopian future angle for its background story. Set in the late 21st century, you take control of Cannon Dancer, named Kirin, a member of a top-of-the-line secret agent group called Teki. This group is a secretive mercenary unit that is whispered about in a hushed tone.

Your tasked with stopping Abdullah the Slaver, government forces, and even other members of the Teki group. Yep, Cannon Dancer has made his share of enemies it seems.
