Unfortunately, this is not an official Jason/Friday the 13th project. It is weird how companies enforce copyright/trademarks and if they even own them. For instance, in arcades, the mask on Rick is very much a hockey mask, no problem.
When NEC ported the game to their TurboGrafx-16, from the Japanese PC Engine version, they had to change the color of the mask to red. Whether it was forced or done by their own choice is unknown to me. I figure they did it to avoid a lawsuit with the owners of the Friday the 13th franchise.
Namco even changed the mask in Splatterhouse 2 and 3 on Sega Genesis, making it more a skull mask, and in 3 melded to Rick's head like bone showing rather than being a mask on his face.
Still a cool franchise, even though I suck horribly at the first game (I rarely make it past the room boss).
