Very good point. Often I view remakes as a studio taking another shot at something, if it is good, I enjoy it, if not, I simply ignore it in the timeline (whether the studio does or not). Most of the time there are pieces in the remakes that are still fun or paying homage to the original in neat ways.

I hope they knock it out of the park but having seen the 1986 version, I can't really see how it is going to work in today's climate. It was the 80's is all I can really say about it. Things were different, tastes in movie and entertainment were different. I don't remember any offensive pieces in it, just general vibes so to speak.

Now, if they announce they are remaking Revenge of the Nerds, I can wholeheartedly say, "good luck with that" as that franchise was too much for the 80's. From nonconsensual sex scenes to body shaming to flat out physical bullying, that movie franchise tried promoting several, disgusting, ways of assaulting others (no idea how people "love" that franchise).
