Done right, any game in this style can be quite good. The problem I see with most releases in this genre is that developers do not quite have their finger on the pulse of what works and what doesn't. Or they attempt to change core things to make their game stand out (like Double Dragon III, making you pay for moves and weapons - why? Other than greed).
